Four days of rain in a row and vintners in the Napa Valley are starting to get a little concerned to say the least.
Vineyard workers are still out in the rain, pulling leaves off the vines so that when the sun does finally shine, the grape bunches will be able to dry off more quickly, and hopefully avoid rot.
Chris Carpenter, winemaker for the labels La Jota, Lakoya and Cardinale in the Napa Valley took me up to his vineyard in the Howell Mountain AVA this morning.
In this video he tells me a little about the vineyard, why he’s getting a little bit worried about his grapes, and why he’s got white tarpaulin down the middle of his rows.
